John Chiappardi, Director of Photography
After spending some formative years directing and shooting for WNYC, a local PBS affiliate, John joined the staff at Comedy Central in 1990, where he helped develop the fledgling cable network's style. Throughout the early and mid-‘90s John left his imprint on a variety of projects – as DP for Emmy Award-winning PBS teen magazine series In the Mix; as Voice Director for Nickelodeon’s animated series Doug; as Studio Director for VH1; as Director for Nick Jr.’s Blues Clues and The Best of Kermit on Sesame Street for The Childrens Television Workshop.
In 1996 John and a partner formed a production company – Bullfrog Productions – which, up until 2005, produced a succession of long-form series and specials including The Men’s Room for Lifetime, Where Are They Now for VH1, A Walk in Your Shoes for Noggin, and Boys vs. Girls for Nickelodeon.
John continues to hone his craft, most recently in partnership with Flat as DP on a documentary project about architecture and design, as well as behind the camera for The PBS series Great decisions, Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List, To Hot Not to Handle an HBO Documentary on global Warming, The Food Networks Ten Days to a New You, Nickelodeon's Nick News, and The Biography Channel.
